Maggie’s Biography

Maggie Aslet was born in Guildford, Surrey, 1987. She has been drawing and painting for 15 years, and won her first award in 2000. She studied art with Graeme Poupart and Ian Newman. Maggie took her A levels in 2006, getting straight As in Fine Art, History, & Biology.
Following this, Maggie took a gap year.
First, she spent two weeks travelling around India. This included spending time at Ranthambore national park, where she saw tigers, amongst other wildlife such as monkeys and deer.
In February 2007, Maggie volunteered in Kenya, working in a hospital, teaching, and helping to build an extensions to a health centre. After this she travelled round Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. Amongst other game parks, she visited the Serengeti, Maasai Mara, and Ngorongoro Crater. She often camped overnight in these parks, and this gave her a true feel of the atmosphere in the savannah. Her return saw a turning point in her art as she incorporated her experiences into her painting. This can be seen by the great expression in her work.
As well as her interest in wildlife art, Maggie has also enjoyed painting other aspects of the African culture. Her emotional portrait of a young child, Daniel is a touching tribute to the many killed in the political disputes in Kenya at the moment.
In April 2008 Maggie plans to publish 3 limited edition prints of her work. Maggie
is an Undergraduate at the University of York. In July-
